Annoucing the Return of Perkiomen Branch Excursions!

The Reading Company Technical & Historical Society is pleased to announce the return of passenger train excursions along the Perkiomen Branch of the Reading Railroad! The trains will be powered by restored Reading Railroad FP7 passenger locomotives #902 and #903, with coaches from the Morristown & Erie railroad. In addition, a private parlor car will be available. The excursions will run on the following dates/times:

 

 

OCTOBER 3/4 (SAT/SUN):

This weekend's trips are being conducted in conjunction with the year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Borough of Emmaus, and are sponsored by the St. Luke's Hospital Network.

 

—Trains depart 7:30am, 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The 7:30am train will go all the way to Pennsburg and return - a 2.5-hour, 28-mile round trip. The other three trips will depart Emmaus, run through the 1798-foot Dillinger Tunnel and return, and will be shorter in duration.

 

—Tickets for the October 3/4 trips are $22 for adults, $12 for children 3-12. No charge for children under 3 sitting on the lap of a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased at the Emmaus 2009 website. Advance purchase is recommended, as day of event tickets will be available only if a ride is not sold out. If you are interested in private parlor car tickets, please e-mail mabhudak@gmail.com.

 

—Trains will board on Kline's Lane, near the borough compost site.

 

—Seating is first-come, first-served. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time, as trains will depart promptly at the scheduled times.

 

—Trains CANNOT accomodate wheelchairs, walkers, strollers or baby carriers. Smoking, food and beverages on the train are prohibited. There are no restrooms on the train, but facilities will be available at the boarding area.

OCTOBER 10/11 (SAT/SUN):

This weekend's trips are sponsored by the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, and unlike the prior weekend's excursions, will originate in Pennsburg.

 

—Trains depart 7:30am, 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The 7:30am train will go all the way to Emmaus and return - a 2.5-hour, 28-mile round trip. The other three trips will depart Pennsburg, run through the 1798-foot Dillinger Tunnel and return, and will be shorter in duration.

 

—Tickets for the October 10/11 trips are $19.75 for adults, $9.75 for children 12 and under. In addition, a limited number of private parlor car tickets are available for $40 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce website. Advance purchase is recommended, as day of event tickets will be available only if a ride is not sold out.

 

—Trains will board at CR Dampman's at Route 663 and Railroad Street.
